MATTHIAS SPOHR BECOMES MANAGING DIRECTOR OF LUFTHANSA AVIATION TRAINING GMBH
Matthias Spohr to lead LAT from February 1, 2021 together with Tiziana Heilig (CFO)
Change within the management of LAT: Matthias Spohr, previously Flight Operations Manager and Head of Flight Ops Standards and Engineering at Eurowings, will become the new Managing Director of Lufthansa Aviation Training in Munich. He succeeds Stephan Klar, who has rotated out of his role as Managing Director of Lufthansa Aviation Training on December 31, 2020, and has taken on a follow-on position within the Lufthansa Group. Matthias Spohr's move to LAT, whose fortunes he will steer together with Tiziana Heilig (CFO), will take place on February 1, 2021. A decision on Matthias Spohr's successor at Eurowings will be made soon.
Matthias Spohr (50) started his flying career at Lufthansa in 1990 with training at the flight school in Bremen. He bridged the waiting period for a job at Lufthansa by studying economics at the Ruhr University in Bochum, from which he graduated with a degree in economics. From 1995, Matthias Spohr worked for Lufthansa, first as a First Officer, then as a Senior First Officer on the Airbus A320 and A340 aircraft types. In 2005, Spohr was trained as an A320 captain at Condor Berlin. He subsequently worked as a training captain himself on this type. In 2013, Matthias Spohr moved to Germanwings in Cologne as Head of Fleet A320, where he continued in the role of training captain. Since 2015, Matthias Spohr has been Flight Operations Manager at Eurowings Germany and Nominated Person Flight Operations as well as Deputy Accountable Manager. Most recently, he also held the additional role of Head of Flight Ops Standards and Engineering. Matthias Spohr is married and has three children.
"I am very much looking forward to the new task in the team of experienced as well as young colleagues at the LAT locations! I want to help not only to further strengthen our position within the Group, but also to drive the external business forward. Lufthansa Aviation Training will also play an important role in the upcoming restart of the Lufthansa Group's airlines," says Matthias Spohr about his start at LAT.
