Lufthansa Aviation Training launches research project on the digitalisation of safety and emergency training

Together with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, the Lufthansa Aviation Training Group has launched an innovative research project to map future training content with the help of virtual reality.  The pioneering project is scheduled to run for three years and is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport with a total of around 1.5 million euros as part of the mFUND innovation initiative.

In addition to elaborately modelled cabin dummies and simulators, "digital twins" are to be used in future. On this basis, training content can be played out on tablets using VR glasses and supplementary 3D modules. This saves investment in expensive training equipment in huge halls, reduces operating and transport costs and, last but not least, protects the environment. The digital learning environment also presents varied and realistic scenarios with the aim of increasing training efficiency and effectiveness.
