A350 Training Infrastructure Officially Inaugurated

LAT looks back on a successful week. On Wednesday (January 29), LAT Switzerland AG officially unveiled the new Airbus A350 simulator and the A350 crew training mock-ups to the public at its Opfikon location. LAT CEO Matthias Spohr and Manuel Meier, Managing Director of LAT Switzerland and Head of Safety & Service Training LAT Group, outlined the significance and efforts behind the state-of-the-art training infrastructure in Zurich to around 150 invited guests and members of the press.

After months of planning, intensive testing, and close collaboration with manufacturers, the cutting-edge training devices are now ready for training operations. Additional remarks were delivered by Oliver Buchhofer, Chief Operating Officer of SWISS, and David Birrer, Chief Operating Officer of Edelweiss, to the guests in attendance.

With this new training infrastructure located near Zurich-Kloten Airport, LAT enables its customers to minimize travel, save costs and resources, and contribute to sustainability. The new A350 simulator from the CAE 7000XR series meets the highest certification standards (Level D), allowing for realistic training under all Airbus A350 flight conditions.

New Training Equipment in Vienna

New Boeing 787-9 Simulator Ready for Training

Just one day later, on January 30, another milestone event took place with the official inauguration of a new training device for the Lufthansa Group and Austrian Airlines: the Boeing 787-9. Since June 2024, two Dreamliners have been part of Austrian Airlines' long-haul fleet. A day after the event in Zurich, the 787-9 simulator was unveiled during an opening ceremony at the Vienna Training Center. LAT CEO Matthias Spohr, Austrian Airlines COO Francesco Sciortino, and LAT Managing Director and Vienna Site Manager Thomas Heinrich officially inaugurated the simulator in front of invited guests and the press. In addition to Austrian Airlines, other LAT customers, such as TUI Fly, which also conducts training in Vienna, attended the event.

Austrian Airlines has big plans—and LAT is supporting them. By 2028, nine additional Boeing 787-9s will gradually replace the airline’s current long-haul aircraft types, the 777 and 767. To facilitate this transition, LAT now provides an ideal and resource-efficient training infrastructure directly in Vienna. With the newly operational simulator, cockpit crews can significantly reduce travel time, and flight scheduling efficiency can be further improved. This marks another step in enhancing efficiency for our customers.
